Sclerotherapy is a non-invasive treatment which involves the use of a very small needle to inject a specialized drug solution directly into the veins. The drug solution causes the vein to collapse and the surrounding blood within the vein to dissipate into surrounding healthier veins. The collapsed vein is then slowly reabsorbed into the body and eventually fades altogether. It is generally a treatment of choice by most vascular surgeons treating these types of vein conditions.

Treated veins with this procedure will tend to fade within a few weeks. Sometimes it may take a few treatments before someone will see the full benefits of a sclerotherapy treatment.

Sclerotherapy, generally will improve the appearance of the area affected by spider and reticular veins, but may require two or more sessions to obtain optimal results. Your physician may customize a series of specific treatments for best results.
